The new Government announced their plans to boost incomes and increase the minimum wage to $16.50 per hour (from $15.75 an hour) on April the 1st 2018.

A coalition deal has now been made with NZ First to increase the minimum wage in steps to $20.00 in 2021.  All workers in the core public service will be paid at least the Living Wage of $20.20.

Although the minimum wage excludes those under the age of 16, it is important to remember that as soon as they have their 16th birthday they must be paid the relevant minimum wage.

As Employers you will need to ensure that by 1st April 2018, that you have identified which Employees are on minimum wage for their hourly rate (or salary), and process their increase through your payroll system.
