The Lessons of Lockdown

Zoom Call - Formal.jpg

The light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer for many and we are proud of all our clients and local SME businesses that have adapted through theses past six weeks.

The words return to ‘business as usual’ are becoming more and more common as we begin the approach to Alert Level 2. But for us, and we hope for many of our clients and local businesses, that the lessons of lockdown will be applied and not forgotten as we move down the Alert Level’s and back to what was known as normality.

Important Lessons to Remember:

  1. Your people are your number one asset

Look after your people, happy Employees create a supportive, positive and productive culture.

  2. The importance of transparent and open regular communication with your team

Be real, empathetic and open with your team and in return they will be understanding of your situation.

  3. You can remain engaged and have fun as a team even in the virtual world

Have fun with video calling! We have shared virtual drinks, morning teas, themed dress up meetings and even completed virtual fitness exercises together.

  4. Technology can broaden your market reach

We have serviced clients during this lockdown from Whangarei right down to Queenstown, and in between. The benefits of Zoom and other remote technology has enabled us and other businesses to extend market reach, without the need for physical travel.

  5. Your team’s health and wellbeing is very important and should be prioritised

Checking in with your team on a regular basis or engaging in wellness activities can still continue remotely.

  6. Your relationships with people are key and will see you through difficult periods

We are fortunate to have fantastic clients, who have leant on us during this period and we are thankful to have their ongoing support.

  7. Finding time for professional development

Downtime is perfect for webinars, seminars and up-skilling. As a team, we have put emphasis on making time to develop professionally.

  8. Be flexible and adapt to new situations

You cannot prepare for everything, these are unfamiliar times and it’s important to adapt and try different approaches from what you might usually do.

We are optimistic for the future and our economy, and we are hopeful that the lessons of lockdown will be applied to the way businesses operate moving forward.

We for one will be sure to continue to apply all the lessons we have learnt over what was an enlightening time.
